Music news: “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” press conference

(I should just keep my camera with me at all times, right? Because if you’ve ever looked at this site before, you know my phone doesn’t cut it)

This goes down as one of my best journalism experiences so far. Earlier this week my editor gave me a hilarious/awesome assignment: Cover Aerosmith’s press conference about their Guitar Hero game that comes out on Sunday.

The other Billboard intern and I went to Hard Rock Café in Times Square for the conference, which was supposed to start at 4 p.m. (but didn’t actually start till 4:15). I wrote some of the story before we left (details about the game, etc.) and pretty much just needed to add in the quotes, but I took my computer with me, typed what the band members said, then pulled quotes from there and had the story in to my editor before 5:30 p.m.

I’m not a huge Aerosmith fan (but do love some of their songs), but it was still pretty sweet to actually see them in person. The only thing was, it was supposed to be a press conference, yet when given the opportunity to ask a question, a couple of obnoxious fans instead told the band all their personal stories about why they love them. One of the guys who did this prefaced his speech with “I’m from CNN.” Journalism, what?

Anyway, my story is online here.
