Jeff Tweedy show review on filter-mag.com
Last Thursday (Jan. 29) I saw Jeff Tweedy at the Kalamazoo State Theatre (frontman/songwriter for Wilco, one of my absolute favorite bands), where I hear he played a lot longer than his set at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival the next night. Got hassled by security for taking photos from up front (kneeling next to the third row) but I had a photo pass so they didn’t kick me out and I got some decent shots.
It was my first time at the State Theatre and it was beautiful! The ceiling was a sky with stars and the inside of the place looked like some sort of castle. The crowd got kind of obnoxious after a while, but Jeff handled it well and all was good.
I didn’t mention them in the review but Great Lake Swimmers opened and they were excellent. I’m sure they’ll get this comparison a lot but if you like Fleet Foxes and/or Bon Iver you likely would be a fan. They have an album, Lost Channels, out March 31 on Nettwerk and I’m excited to hear it!
