Big news!

This has been in the works for a few months now, and I’m so excited to finally share it with the world (er, Internet)! I started a new food/music blog called Eating the Beats, where I’ll be posting music-inspired recipes, cooking playlists, and other food- and music-related stuff. I’m really excited about this project and hope you’ll take a minute to check it out! If you like it, you can add it to your RSS feed and/or follow me on Twitter at @eatingthebeats for updates on posts.

And if you’re one of my real-life friends reading this, and you ever want to come over and help with cooking some of this stuff, get at me! I love making food in any capacity, but it’s definitely a lot more fun with other people.

Thanks for reading!

Big news!: New Ani DiFranco album in September!!!

Happy day-after-my-birthday to me! I didn’t know Ani had a new album coming out in September until Tuesday when we got it in the mail at work! It’s called Red Letter Year and it’s out Sept. 30 on Righteous Babe Records (duh).

I wrote about it for Billboard.com, so check out my story for a quick preview of what it sounds like!

And it’s a super Ani-filled week (and, of course, those are always the best), since I just got back from seeing her at United Palace Theater — second post is on the way.

Music news: “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” press conference

(I should just keep my camera with me at all times, right? Because if you’ve ever looked at this site before, you know my phone doesn’t cut it)

This goes down as one of my best journalism experiences so far. Earlier this week my editor gave me a hilarious/awesome assignment: Cover Aerosmith’s press conference about their Guitar Hero game that comes out on Sunday.

The other Billboard intern and I went to Hard Rock Café in Times Square for the conference, which was supposed to start at 4 p.m. (but didn’t actually start till 4:15). I wrote some of the story before we left (details about the game, etc.) and pretty much just needed to add in the quotes, but I took my computer with me, typed what the band members said, then pulled quotes from there and had the story in to my editor before 5:30 p.m.

I’m not a huge Aerosmith fan (but do love some of their songs), but it was still pretty sweet to actually see them in person. The only thing was, it was supposed to be a press conference, yet when given the opportunity to ask a question, a couple of obnoxious fans instead told the band all their personal stories about why they love them. One of the guys who did this prefaced his speech with “I’m from CNN.” Journalism, what?

Anyway, my story is online here.
